Nelson Cruz-Q Victor Martinez-Q Max Scherzer-Q James Shields-Q David Robertson-Q Melky Cabrera-Q Ervin Santana-Q Hanley Ramirez-Q Pablo Sandoval-Q Francisco Liriano-Q Russell Martin-Q Michael Cuddyer-Q
these guys all got qualifying offers from there respected teams. after talking to duck hes on board with the idea but putting this idea out to everyone. what i purpose is owners have the option in this league(doesnt matter what player do in mlb) to keep said guy at what 15.3 mill will convert into in this league. if you keep said player its only for the duration of 2015 season no matter if said player signs a big contract durong the season or not. if owner decides not to keep player and let them walk owner gets a sandwhich draft pick in between the first and second rounds of 2015 minor league draft. we are just trying to give owners some options in the league. let me know what you think
thanks

I don't think you should get to keep them unless the accept the qualifying offer in real life. That will really deplete the FA pool, but I do think you should get a sandwich pick if another owner signs them. My $0.02

Generally I agree with Kyle here. Managing around expiring contracts is part of the game. But there are two important things to note:
1) During the 2013 season, this league *already* voted on and APPROVED awarding sandwich round compensation picks to owners who lost free agents that received the qualifying offer in real life. You can still see the result of this vote on the crawl at the top of the league home page. Unfortunately, Tony either refused or forgot to make this change in the 2014 season. So, our rules already call for compensation picks. We should not be operating as if this isn't the case.
2) if we did adopt the rule change JBach is proposing, however, it would only dilute the free agent pool for the current season. Those players would then automatically become free agents - with no recourse - the following season.

I have to agree with Kyle this would dilute the FA pool. Also this league is based on mirroring the MLB and this would deviate from that.

i understand that but this league kind of mirriors the mlb with a lower salary cap and conversion chart if you really wanted to mirror mlb raise the cap to there level and use real salaries

Another rule that does not need to be looked at and revamped. What we have works, it is simple and easily understood.

Keep on mind you only get sandwich pick if player is actually picked up here in free agency.if not you don't get the pick
